DOWNFLOW CONTAINMENT BOOTHS

During handling of very hazardous powders in warehouse environments, downflow containment booths are utilized to provide safety for personnel and product. Although more commonly seen in the pharmaceutical industry, downflow containment booths are seen across a wide variety of industries.

In a downflow containment booth, containment is achieved by providing unidirectional HEPA filtered airflow. The unidirectional air entrains dust particulate released from the process, away from the operator. This particulate moves with the downward flow of air and is then recaptured by a low level exhaust and passed through HEPA filtration to substantially remove the particulate.

HEPA Filtration

All downflow containment booths feature Class 100 (ISO 14644-1 Class 5) HEPA filtered air at 90-100 fpm over the entire ceiling, resulting in no updrafts that would contaminate pure raw materials and endanger workers' safety.

Membrane Diffuser Ceiling

All downflow containment booths produced by International Portland utilize Membrane Diffuser Ceilings. This type of construction results in minimal dead air zones.

Traditional booths that utilize HEPA Filter Ceilings are highly susceptible to dead air zones. This can result in personnel inhaling dangerous powders.

Clean Air Stations

For smaller applications, or perhaps when mobility is required, Clean Air Stations are a great option.

 

These models provide the user with a class 100 positive pressure environment wherever localized clean air is required.  Typical applications are raw material sampling and aseptic connections for bioreactors and fermenters.

The blower box contains a deep media HEPA filter that meets Federal Standard 209 (0.3 microns @ 99.99% efficiency).

Powder Capture Station

The simplest of all solutions is a Powder Capture Station. This unit includes a three phase 1 Hp blower motor mounted outside of the air stream.  The blower delivers up to 800 cfm.


The output filter is an 18” x 18” 99.99% efficient high volume deep media HEPA filter. The intake opening height is adjustable from 8” to 39” (bottom of opening to floor).  The opening is adjusted to match the top of barrels for optimum capture.


Two flush mounted differential pressure gages are included to monitor output HEPA filter pressure and pre-filter pressure, accuracy 3% of full scale, range of 3”.
